Dr P. Muthukumaran is the consultant neurologist at PS Neuro Centre. He is the best neurologist in Tirunelveli. He comes from a family of doctors for more than a 100 years. His great-grandfather, Late. Dr T.S. Vaikuntaraman LMP (1901-1946) started his medical practice in the 1920s in the town of Tirunelveli. This was followed by his grandfather Late. Dr. T.V. Muthiah MBBS, and his father Dr. T. M. Pooranalingam MS., MCh (Plastic Surgery).

Dr P. Muthukumaran did his MBBS in PSG Institute of medical sciences and research, Coimbatore. He won the Dr Balakumar gold medal in pathology and Dr Nandakumar gold medal in medicine during his student years. He also secured distinctions in 10 subjects during his MBBS. He graduated with the top honours in this batch was awarded the GV Memorial Gold medal for the best outgoing graduate and the GRG gold medal for the best all-rounder graduate.
Subsequently, he pursued his MD (General Medicine) in the prestigious Christian Medical College in Vellore from 2012-2015. He completed his Neurology training from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore (2016-2019) which is a premier neurological institute in the country and an institute of National Importance
First interventional neurologist in Tirunelveli
He further trained for one year under Dr. Gigy Kuruttukulam, one of the earliest interventional neurologists in the country, at Rajagiri Hospital, Kochi to complete his fellowship in Stroke and Interventional Neurology (FSIN). He is one of the few neurologists who are trained in the art and science of neurointervention in the country and the first neurointerventionist in Tirunelveli.
